Radiate Baptism night is a celebration service for students who have made decisions in the past that have not yet had the chance to get baptized. Some students’ families want them to be baptized in the Sunday service, but we love the chance to celebrate as a student ministry family together. Their friends and community comes around them excited for their decision for Jesus!
That night our team will teach about what the Bible says baptism means, then we give the chance for students in the room to be baptized on the spot, if they have accepted Christ as Savior and Lord, and they are not ashamed and have not yet made that decision to be baptized. This is such an exciting experience, because we open every door possible for students to obey – we call parents and give them a chance to get there, we have towels and changes of clothes provided, and we have the baptism water already there so that there’s basically no excuse not to follow through!
Sometimes a student will walk down, they will call a parent, and the parent may say – well grandma will want to be there, can we wait till Sunday. That is a common response, but then we make sure they do it soon.
If someone is a student, we encourage them not to look at it as a night off. Students who are getting baptized need their community around them, so we encourage students to come that have already been baptized, so they can be the ones cheering on their friends!
If someone is a student (middle and high) who has accepted Christ but has never been baptized after becoming a follower of Christ, OR just simply has questions about it – they are encouraged to reach out to a Radiate staff member or simply come that night, and they will hear clear teaching from our High School pastor about what baptism is and what the Bible teaches about it.
If a student is planning to get baptized that night (has spoken with a Radiate staff member already), they will get more details from us about when and where to arrive that Wednesday and what to bring with them… their parents are strongly encouraged to be part of the evening, and we will have pictures!
